Add Jobs does not show the one I need. What should I do?

We shipped an initial list to cover most work at most shops. You can add new jobs to the list by going into Settings | Dropdowns | Job Titles. Follow the convention and add the title at the end of the job title list. Use the main section of the car or type of work then a dash then the particular new job you need. Try to use one of the existing main titles whenever possible. For example to add a Fan Clutch, make a new job Cooling-Fan Clutch. For more detail press F1 when you are in the Job Title screen and the click on the jobs hotlink. If you specialize in an area then you may add a lot of jobs for your specialty.

Why would I use the Other or zInHouse Job Titles?

Use Other for things that you do rarely and do not need to track for analysis and reminders. The zInHouse is a primarily a way to track internal work done for the shop or for comebacks where you have already recorded the main service in the customers service records.

I like the idea of SmartJobs. Exactly how do they work?

The way the SmartJobs work is that they learn as you make invoices. The job title is part of what makes the smart jobs work. You pick a job title and make an invoice for a particular make, model and year. That is now a SmartJob for that particular car. The next time you need to do that job title you can choose either the generic one that is set up in job titles or any previous use of that job title on any finalized invoice.

If you did front brakes on a 1995 BMW 325, the next time you went to do front brakes on a 1995 BMW 325 the job will fill in automatically. If you try to do front brakes on a 1994 BMW 323 and you have never done front brakes on a 1994 BMW 323, the program will show you front brakes you have done on 1992 through 1996 325s (two years on either side of the car you are working on). You can broaden out the range of years, makes, and jobs to find an old job to be the basis for the new job. When you finalize that ticket you now have an exact match for a 1994 325.

Each one of these jobs will retain the job description, time and parts list and pricing as the basis for the next job. You will always be shown the most recent job that fits. This lets you refine the jobs as you use them and always get the latest version.

You can add job titles in the Settings | Dropdowns area, so you can put in whatever you like. If you look through the reports you will find that lots of them include the job titles and operations codes as selection criteria. If you lump things under a title Generic Labor you won't be able to see time spent, or dollars in, or profitability of different types of jobs. There is a job title Other for doing one time operations.
